Treatment of wrinkles with botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin is a product used in many fields of medicine. In aesthetic medicine, it is used to treat wrinkles and excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis.

Botulinum toxin is a naturally paralysing agent produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles, preventing any contraction and thus any wrinkles. The wrinkles in the upper face can therefore be treated, such as the frown lines between the eyebrows. Contrary to the hyaluronic acid, Botulinum toxin is not a filling agent. It is impossible to fill out wrinkles or increase lip size with such a product.

WHO IS IT FOR?
  • You have wrinkles in the upper face (frown lines, crow’s feet, brow)
  • Wrinkles make you look angry
  • You want to reduce your wrinkles without using surgery
BEFORE SURGERY

To avoid the risk of bleeding, it is important not to take any aspirin 10 days before injection. The injection may be performed during the first consultation or after a period of reflection during the second consultation. A cost estimate will be forwarded to you during the consultation.
It is important for Dr Thomet to advise you properly and tailor the treatment to your needs. The aim is not to have a rigid forehead and expressionless appearance but strike a fine balance between fewer wrinkles and maintain facial expressions.

INJECTION

Injection is performed using a small needle. Several injections are needed, depending on the area treated. The treatment only takes a few minutes.

EFFECT

A small bruise may appear just after the injection. Do not plan any important meetings immediately after the injection. A makeup retouch is required.
In rare cases, a facial asymmetry or ptosis (droopy eyelid) can persist for 3 to 6 months, that is Botox’s duration of action.

FURTHER PROCESSING

Injections can be repeated every three to six months, even more in some cases. Botox injections should be spaced at least 3 months apart. Otherwise, you can develop resistance to the product (vaccine effect).
